30 Movies in 30 Days - Time Traveller (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time)
Oh Japan. There’s something I love about this country, and it can be summed up in the first plot point of this movie: when your mother tells you to take the key to her desk, open the bottom drawer, and drink the liquid that will allow you to travel through time to wherever you wish, you don’t question the logic. You just do it. Adding to my never ending list of “movies white people would flip their shit for if they starred white people” is Time Traveller, a unique sort-of-coming-of-age story, part romance, part family drama, part sci-fi, part everything. Japanese cinema has a gift for providing the most bittersweet endings (or just outright depressing) and this movie is no exception. The story is amazing, the plot complex but still allowing room for great development. As an irrelevant critique to the story but still important in terms of aesthetics: the clothing is straight up awesome, so are the sets! The attention to detail in this movie is unparalleled!
